Jerry Brune

Jerry Brune began his career with his IRS in 1978 and is currently a revenue agent in Downers Grove. Jerry became a certified public accountant (CPA) in 1980. As part of his IRS responsibilities, Jerry has conducted over 600 radio and television interviews and call-in shows, covering a wide range of topics and responding to any tax-related subject. He also has taught many courses for the IRS on a local and national basis. Outside of his IRS responsibilities, he has taught various accounting courses at Illinois Central College, and has taught a business taxation course at University of Illinois at Springfield. Jerry has been an Illinois Tax School instructor since 1999 and has served as an author and reviewer for the University of Illinois Federal Tax Workbook. Jerry's alma mater is St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana.

Lanny Lobdell

Lanny Lobdell has been affiliated in various capacities with the Tax Schools since 1978. He has been extensively involved in writing and editing the University of Illinois Federal Tax Workbook. He has been a Tax School instructor for many years as well. He is a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University and an enrolled agent (EA). He was employed by the Internal Revenue Service as a revenue agent for 32 years, before retiring in 1996.

Rich Walden

Rich Walden has served as chapter author and reviewer for the University of Illinois Federal Tax Workbook, and has been an instructor with the Illinois Tax Schools and Agricultural Issues Seminars since 1982. A graduate of Blackburn College, Rich was employed by the IRS as a revenue agent for 6 1/2 years. He is a certified public accountant (CPA) with a private practice in Carlinville, Illinois, and serves in various board member roles for several banks, a software company and a community hospital.

Northern Instructor Team

Debbie Held

Debbie Held has been an instructor with the Tax School since 2000. She has also served as a chapter author and reviewer for the University of Illinois Federal Tax Workbook. She is a graduate of Sangamon State University (University of Illinois at Springfield). She has been employed by the IRS since 1979, spending time as a revenue agent, appeals officer and most recently as a project manager for the Small Business Self Employed Communications, Liaison, and Disclosure Division. She previously taught various accounting courses at Lincoln Land Community College for 18 years. She is a certified public accountant (CPA) and resides in Raymond, Illinois where her family farms.

George Moore

George Moore began his work with the Tax School as an instructor representing IRS, and then in 1990 he began his current affiliation with the schools as an instructor. He has served as a chapter author and reviewer for the University of Illinois Federal Tax Workbook. George was employed by the IRS as a revenue agent and manager for 16 1/2 years. George is a certified public accountant (CPA) in private practice in Belleville, Illinois.

Jacqueline Rutledge

Jacqueline Rutledge has been an instructor for Tax Schools since 1986. She has also served as an author and reviewer for the University of Illinois Fedeal Tax Workbook. She is a graduate of Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa and St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa, Jacque is a self-employed certified public accountant (CPA) in Fulton, Illinois.

Southern Instructor Team

Sam Phillips

Sam Phillips is a native of southern Illinois and a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Sam has been affiliated with the Tax School as an instructor since 2007. He is a CPA and has been in public accounting since 1988. Sam worked for two CPA firms in Southern Illinois and now owns his practice with locations in Salem and Breese. His special interests are in the areas of small business and agricultural taxation. Sam is married and resides in Salem, Illinois.

Ted Knapp

Ted Knapp has been affiliated with the Tax School since 1990 as an instructor and has also served as a reviewer for the University of Illinois Federal Tax Workbook. He has been employed by the IRS since 1977 and recently switched roles in the IRS from a revenue agent in the Examination Division to the Federal, State and local Government Division where he provides services to governmental and educational entities. Ted's post of duty is Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He is a graduate of Illinois College. In his spare time, he is a sports official for basketball, football, and softball.

Sue Voth

Sue Voth has been affiliated with the University of Illinois Tax School as an instructor since 2002. Sue has been a national presenter for National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) seminars and has served as an author and reviewer for the University of Illinois Federal Tax Workbook since 2002. She taught for the Missouri Society of CPAs' Tax Schools using the University of Illinois Federal Tax Workbook and teaches for Advanced Tax Practitioner's Institute in the State of Washington using the same matrials. Sue is an enrolled agent (EA) and has her own tax practice in Quincy, Illinois.
